Last week, the first three of a total of six stainless steel slides were installed on the slope directly below the Austrian side of the mighty Zugspitze by helicopter.
The new slide trail is breathing new life into a previously little-used lift in this popular family destination and is also expanding its range of activities to include a bike trail.
A total of 170 m of slide length awaits visitors – spread over a tube slide, a slide with Makrolon cover, an open trough, a racer with two tubes, a tube wave slide, and, finally, an open family racer.
Slide hikers can rent lightweight felt mats for a small fee and use the slides as often as they like throughout the day. The concept appeals not only to families: taking the lift up comfortably and enriching the hike down with rapid slides – this appeals to a large target group in the mountains who are increasingly discovering summer tourism for themselves.
