Moderna Museet in Stockholm has acquired a new and somewhat different sculpture – a spiral double slide. The 39-metre-long artwork was inaugurated on Saturday October 4th 2025.
The slide was once again created by long-time Wiegand fan and highly regarded artist Carsten Höller and consists of two spiral slides that descend from the museum’s roof down to Slupskjulsvägen street. With a height difference of 45 feet.
The Moderna Museet describes Carsten Höller as known for ‘creating participatory artworks that blur the line between scientific experiment and sensory play. ’ The artist himself compares the experience of the slide to a controlled fall, a state of ‘lustful panic in an otherwise clear mind.’
During the opening weekend, the ride was free – and it remains so for children. Anyone over the age of 19 can slide once with a normal museum admission ticket.
