Since July 2024, guests on Royal Caribbean's new ‘Utopia of the Seas’ can expect 5 new slide experiences from Wiegand. In the water park area, these are two turbo slides and a bowl slide - all with acrylic glass parts to increase the excitement for both, the sliders and spectators alike!
The highlight is the ‘Ultimate Abyss’
With a starting height of 150 feet above sea level, this double slide concept is the visual highlight of every ship in the fleet. Here on the ‘Utopia of the Seas’, these slides have each been equipped with two further special features, which increase the length of the slide to 259 feet on each side, making them the largest dry slides at sea in the world.
After the start, the brave slide guest hurtles down 10 storeys in just 19 seconds in a slide bag in race mode. In addition to the usual spirals and banked turns - illuminated with 300 LEDs - a surprise awaits: the side-by-side race track on rollers! These booster rolls whirl the guest around and, with a low separation to the neighbour, ensure a real shoulder-to-shoulder racing feeling!
Another new feature follows immediately afterwards. A glass pane suggests that the slide ends in front of you. Will you possibly fall into the void here? A hidden curve unexpectedly leads the slide guests to the side. They slide over the glass pane into the final slide roundabout and down to the landing.
