Finally: „Steirarodl“ Modriach goes into operation

April 3rd and 4th should have been great days for Modriach. Originally it was planned to open the new "Steirarodl", the summer toboggan run of the Diesel brothers. The construction work was also right on schedule, but then the Corona crisis put a stop to everything and the completion had to be put on hold indefinitely.

In the meantime, the third joint project with the Diesel brothers has been successfully approved by TÜV and goes into operation today. The construction of the Jungle Coaster in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in 2016 was the first step in this extraordinarily successful business relationship. Three years later the Schlossberg slide in Graz followed and now the Alpine Coaster "Steirarodl", which will cause a sensation in Modriach in Styria. The small village is of regional importance as a hiking and skiing area/resort, several mountain bike and cross-country skiing tours also lead through the municipal area.

The new toboggan run can already be seen from the A2 southern motorway. Already from the A2 southern motorway the new toboggan run can be seen. 780 m of downhill run wind down on the former Modriach ski slope. Numerous jumps, curves and waves as well as two circle constructions and three bridges up to 4 meters high provide variety and make the ride a very special experience. The sleds are designed for two adults and can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. The scope of delivery also includes 10 rain covers.

As with all our toboggan runs, the user himself actively takes care of his safety. In addition, on the "Steirarodl" he is supported by the end of track brake, which works on eddy current basis.

After the breathtaking ride, the lift takes you back over 400 m to the 66 m higher top station, where you can either start again or release the sled for the waiting guests. At the end of the day, the sleds are placed in the storage system.

Further expansion steps include the construction of a motor skills park and a viewing platform. Operator Ernst Diesel expects 100,000 day tourists per season.

Mayor Georg Preßler emphasises the importance of the project for the region: "Thanks to the optimal connection to the motorway, the proximity to Graz and the visibility from the motorway, this will be one of the biggest day tourist attractions in the district. After being here, people will continue their journey, for example to the reservoir or to the core area. Other tourism businesses will also benefit from the new attraction."
